1928
Sponsored concert by Cecil Johnson to aid him in his musical studies.  Entertained Boy Scouts at camp. Sponsored Garden Club flower show.  Entered Service Club and Chamber of Commerce membership contest. Held Fire Prevention Week.  Cooperated with service clubs in financing Community Christmas tree.  Assisted the Salvation Army in drive for funds.  Aided blind people with eyesight problems.  Distributed charity.  Organized a Glee club.


1930 - 31
Furnished treatment and eyeglasses to people with defective vision.  Assisted with community Christmas celebration.  Assisted Boy Scouts in raising annual budget.  Sent Boy Scouts to camp for two  weeks.  Inaugurated a movement to secure a  city stadium.  Staged an Easter Egg Hunt.  Sponsored sixth annual Boy Scout encampment.  Sponsored Business Confidence Week.  Joined with other service organizations in financing a community Christmas tree.  Netted profit for charity work from concert by Virginia Polytechnic Institute minstrel troupe.  Assisted Boy Scouts in raising annual budget.  Held concert featuring Salvi, a  world famous harpist, and Miss Kathryn Witwer, a lyric soprano of Chicago Civic Opera, to raise funds for sight conservation work.  Financed eye operation for one child, provided glasses for three children and had lenses changed for three others, and furnished free eye examinations to 15 school children.  Organized Lions Club at Mount Hope.  Financially assisted with maintenance of playgrounds.


1942 - 1943
Held banquet and dance.  Staged Ladies Day Outing with club-sponsored Boy Scout Troop at its camp.  Delegation and wives met with Welch Lions Club.  Bought $400 worth of Defense Bonds.  Raised $75 for Community Christmas party.  Observed Founders Week.  Attended Charter Night at Pocahontas Lions Club.  Netted $300 on Turtle Derby for Blind Fund.  Delegation attended ladies Night at Princeton Lions Club.  Observed Victory Week.  Assisted in Community Chest Campaign.  Participated in Salvage Campaign.  Fitted nine persons with glasses. Provided artificial eye for one person.  Participated in Victory Book Campaign.  Assisted in Civilian Defense Program.  Conducted Attendance Contest.  Sponsored Pocahontas Lions Club.  Played baseball with club-sponsored Boy Scout Troop at camp.  Financially assisted 14 Boy Scouts for their camping expenses.  Participated in Community Drive to promote sale of War Bonds.  Assisted in Civilian Defense program.  Conducted Membership Development program and attendance Contest.  Held patriotic meetings.  Assisted with Red cross canteen service.  Contributed $75 to community Christmas tree fund.  Provided Christmas dinner for salvation Army.  Contributed to public library fund.  Observed Founders Week.  Bought $500 War Bond.  Entertained club-sponsored Boy Scout Troop.  Assisted in collecting and shipping books for servicemen.  Fitted two persons with glasses.


1951 - 1952
Held Ladies Night banquet and dance.  Presented plaque to Boy Scout camp in dedication of health unit built by club last year.  Co-sponsored two football games with another service club and netted $1,500.  Sponsored Don Cossack Chorus concert.  Held 30th Charter Night  anniversary celebration.


1953 - 1954
Sponsored high school band to international convention.  Sent 25 children to Salvation Army summer camp at a  cost of $188.  Co-sponsored football game with another service club, profits were over $1,000.  Assisted with Halloween celebration.  Sponsored football game.  Sponsored Babe in Manger exhibit.  Manned Salvation Army kettles.  Donated $70 to Christmas tree program.  Profits from March of Dimes were $67.  Co-sponsored "James Elmer Brown Memorial Fund".  Donated $500 to Beaver Band, $1000 to swimming pool fund, $750 for Blind Fund, and $500 for club-sponsored Boy Scout memorial room.  Furnished many eye examinations through-out the year.  Sponsored jointly with Kawanis Club the annual West Virginia all Star High School football game.  Lions made approximately $1,000 from sale of programs and advertising and collected $3,000 from gate receipts.  We  conducted the annual Aunt Jemima Pancake festival and earned a net profit of around $450.  Our club worked the Salvation Army Kettles in December and collected approximately $500.  We held a light bulb sale, profits were $580.  Also, held a rummage sale, approximate profits were $350.  The club sponsored the Easter Seal Campaign but due to bad weather and lack of workers, we only collected $300 for the Agency in a house to house canvas.


1959 - 1976

1972 - 1973
Our  club sponsored Bluefield State College Holiday Basketball Tournament.  The Lions held their annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Lutheran church, about 75 people attended.  The club held its annual Pancake Day, we served over 700 people.  Total purchases for last 6 months for eye glasses and exams were $700.  Donated $100 to the community Christmas Tree.  Members of the club collected $787 from the ringing of the bell at Christmas for the Salvation Army Kettle and members donated toys.


1987 - 1988
The Bluefield College Summer Theater shared with our club several of the performers for a summer production and rendered several numbers in an entertaining style.  Mr. Dave Pedneau, Administrative Assistant to the Sheriff of Mercer County, provided an excellent program in sharing some views on writing.  He commented on young people to whom he had been exposed, as well as on his own writing which has produced successful novels.  Keith Buchanan, Community Development Director for Bluefield, WV, presented an interesting program on developments in the city.  Fred Simons, head Football Coach for Bluefield High School, and his staff shared a look at this year's prospects and talked about the team in general.  Mr. Brent Brody, head of the physical therapy department at Bluefield Community Hospital, gave an interesting program on the work of his department and stressed the service to the community os such services.  Our club sent $2,000 to the WV Sight Foundation.  "Old Men and their Toys" was the program for the day, featuring several men and their particular hobbies, trains, airplanes, etc.


1993 - 1994
$1,592 was made from the annual Pancake Jamboree.  Held "Mercer Aviation Days" Air Show to raise funds for the Sight Foundation, extreme bad weather limited the show.  Donated $1,000 to the State Sight Foundation.  Several members worked as volunteers for the American Cancer Society during the grocers and merchants day in the local area.  Lion members worked at the Mountain Festival, a assisting with the West Virginia Sight Screening van.  Donated $500 to the Blades Foundation for eye sight.  Donated $200 to the United Way Campaign.  Five members attended the  29-N District fall conference at Pipestem.  A check for $1,000 was presented to the Sight Foundation during the Fall Conference.
